Our Approach to AI

AI is a tool. The instructor is the expert.

ClassComposer uses AI to help fitness instructors save time on class preparation. We believe AI can be genuinely useful when applied thoughtfully, but it comes with real responsibilities. This page explains how we think about AI and the principles that guide every AI feature we build.

AI should enhance what instructors already do

A good fitness instructor brings years of training, anatomical knowledge, and an intuitive understanding of how to guide a room full of people through a safe, effective class. No AI model has that.

We use AI to handle the parts of class prep that are time-consuming but don't require professional judgment: suggesting songs that match a tempo, drafting a starting point for a class sequence, or helping organize ideas. The creative and safety-critical decisions stay with you.

Human oversight is required

AI in ClassComposer never operates autonomously. Every AI-generated suggestion is presented to you for review before it becomes part of your class. You can accept, modify, or discard anything the AI produces.

We will never use AI to generate exercise routines that go directly to students without a qualified instructor reviewing them first. Fitness instruction carries real physical risk, and that responsibility belongs to a trained human.

We only use AI where it makes sense

Not every problem needs AI. A search filter, a sort button, or a well-designed form often does the job better, faster, and with less resource consumption.

Before building an AI feature, we ask whether a simpler approach would produce comparable results. If it would, we use the simpler approach. AI should solve problems that genuinely benefit from it, not serve as a marketing checkbox.

For example, when deciding how to build music suggestion capabilities we calculated the resource cost of building a database of songs and attributes we would need. It would have taken 90 years of high volume usage for ClassComposer to break even versus utilizing AI to generate playlists.

Additionally, many instructors spend hours watching instagram or youtube videos to get inspiration for their classes. The AI models we use were trained on that same content. Using our class generation tool helps you find ideas aligned to your goals faster and easier with less total resource usage.

To illustrate that, consider the CO2 impacts of both paths:

ClassComposer's AI class generation feature (currently in development) is 30x more energy efficient than most instructors who get their inspiration from instagram and youtube today.

AI features are clearly labeled and optional

Every AI-powered feature in ClassComposer is clearly marked so you always know when AI is involved. You can plan classes, build playlists, and use every core feature of the app without AI if you prefer.

We respect that some instructors prefer a fully self-driven workflow. ClassComposer is designed to work well either way.

We are not dependent on a single AI provider

ClassComposer integrates with multiple AI providers. If one provider is unavailable, the system falls back to another so your workflow is not interrupted.

This also means we can choose the best model for each task and adapt as the technology evolves, rather than being locked into a single vendor's roadmap.

Your data

When you use an AI feature, we send only the data needed to generate the result. We minimize personally identifiable information in those requests and work with providers who maintain reasonable data protections.

For the full details on how your data is handled, see our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.
